Donald Cerrone continued his unbeaten run in the UFC on Saturday night with a stoppage of John Makdessi.

Cowboy had been due to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 187 but the Dagestani fighter was forced to pull out due to injury. That initially planned bout was thought to be elimination fight to see who would get a shot at lightweight title holder Rafael dos Anjos.

Despite the alteration in opponent, Cerrone is still getting his chance to take on dos Anjos.

UFC president Dana White told ESPN:

Cowboy looked insanely good. He kept his composure, put together combinations to the legs and head. He looked unbelievable. I will give you this, yes, Cowboy Cerrone is next in line for a title shot.

Great news for of of the most likeable fighters in the UFC.
