Japan, June 23rd, 2002. The Irish team were already back on the island, presumably watching Spain go out to South Korea on penalties, dreaming of what could have been, like the rest of us. But while all this soul searching was going on in the Western Europe seaboard, something tremendous, exceptional and thoroughly more important was going down in a small corner of Japan. The Don Frye Vs. Takayama bout was the show opener at a historic MMA night, which saw the debut of Anderson Silva. The opening bout is the undercard, the warm up, not this time, not this time at all. What happened next was what respected veterans call the fight of the year, others labelling it the fight of the ages. For us, it's all that and more. Just amazing stuff.
