You may be forgiven for thinking that time machines work after Padraig Harrington rolled back the years on Monday winning his first tournament since 2008, or when Jose Mourinho or Didier Drogba re-joined Chelsea.

Unfortunately for Fernando Alonso, he actually thought it was 1995 after a crash at the Circuit de Catalunya in February. Alonso spent three days in hospital, and while he posted a video on youtube reassuring fans that he was ok; Alonso is expected to miss the season opening Australian Grand Prix.

According to Spanish newspaper El Pais, Alonso woke up in hospital thinking it was 1995. Asked who he was, what his job was and what he wanted to do with his life he is reported to have said:

I'm Fernando, I drive go karts and I want to be a Formula One driver.

Alonso's doctor explained that he was suffering from retrogade amnesia which isn't uncommon in these type of cases, and he has made a recovery.
