If there’s one thing Netflix do well it’s sports documentaries and, by the look of the first teaser trailer, their latest offering on the career of Michael Schumacher could be an incredible addition to their catalogue.
Netflix of course have previous experience with Formula 1 programming, with the excellent Drive to Survive in the midst of filming its fourth season.

Wednesday morning brought the release of the first trailer for Schumacher, which will chart the career and life of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion.

The film will feature contributions from other motorsport legends like Sebastian Vettel, as well as never-before-seen family footage and contributions from his wife and children.
Schumacher’s press manager Sabine Kehm was quoted by F1.com when the documentary was first announced, saying:
Michael Schumacher has redefined the professional image of a racing driver and has set new standards.
He found the strength for this task and the balance to recharge at home, with his family, whom he loves idolatrously. In order to preserve his private sphere as a source of strength, he has always rigorously and consistently separated his private from his public life.
This film tells of both worlds. It is his family's gift to their beloved husband and father.
His son, Mick, is racing in his first Formula 1 season this year for Haas, and he features in the trailer, saying, “When I look at him, I think, ‘I want to be like that.’”
The documentary looks set to give us an incredible insight into what drove one of F1's fastest ever drivers, with behind-the-scenes footage in the trailer already revealing never-before-seen footage of him working on his cars with mechanics.
The release of the trailer for the documentary comes on the 30th anniversary of Schumacher’s F1 debut for the Irish team Jordan at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix.

The German went on to race for Benetton, Ferrari, and Mercedes in a career that lasted until 2012 and took in seven world championships and 91 race wins, records only matched last year by Lewis Hamilton.
The documentary will come eight years after Schumacher’s skiing accident, which left him with severe head injuries. He continues to recover from his injuries at home with the help of his family.
If Netflix’s track record is anything to go by, Schumacher is going to be an incredible watch, and we can’t wait to see it. The film will release on Netflix on September 15th.
