Sebastian Vettel's F1 future is up on the air, and rumours have linked him with a move to McLaren in place of the under pressure Daniel Ricciardo.

Vettel has yet to sign a new contract with Aston Martin, and the 35-year-old is one of those linked with Ricciardo's seat.

Ahead of this weekend's French Grand Prix, Vettel was asked about the rumours, and made a cheeky jab at the situation at McLaren.

Sebastian Vettel makes Daniel Ricciardo joke and dispels McLaren rumours

The potential for a linkup between four time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel and one of the most legendary teams in the sport in McLaren understandably had fans excited, but it appears that there is no substance to the rumoured move.

Vettel was asked about the situation ahead of the French Grand Prix. If he were to move to McLaren, the speculation would suggest he would take the seat of the underperforming Daniel Ricciardo. Vettel had a witty response, suggesting he would instead be replacing Lando Norris if he were to move to the British team.

I think Lando has a contract! I know obviously some people there, but I think it's just rumours.

Vettel went on to confirm that he is intending to stay in F1 for 2023 with Aston Martin.

I said that at some point we'll start talking and I'm talking to the team. I think there's a clear intention to keep going and we'll see soon where we stand.

Sebastian Vettel is not the only man to be linked to McLaren. IndyCar drivers Colton Herta and Patricio O'Ward have both been strongly linked, with Herta recently testing McLaren's 2021 F1 car.

To celebrate the 100 year anniversary of Aston Martin's first Grand Prix entry at the 1922 French Grand Prix, Vettel was tasked with driving the car from that race at Paul Ricard ahead of this weekend's race. The car ran on sustainable fuel, as part of Vettel's campaign to improve the sustainability of motorsport.
