Allianz Football Leagues: All The Permutations For The Final Round

It's the final weekend of Allianz Football League action and there's sure to be plenty of drama up and down the country as teams in every division battle it out to avoid relegation and earn themselves both promotions and finals spots.

With everything still to play for we've all the permutations for the weekend right here, from the fight for a place in the Division One Final to Galway and Roscommon's battle to avoid relegation, all the way down to Down's sensational efforts for Division Two promotion it's sure to be an action-packed weekend.

Division One

The final round of fixtures just won’t feel the same with Monaghan no longer clinging onto their Division One status and their clash with Mayo being pretty much a dead rubber, but there’s still plenty to play for in the top tier.

Derry are in the driving seat for a place in the league final, although that’s not mathematically secured. If they happen to lose to Roscommon, who are fighting for their lives, then Derry can still be caught.

For Mickey Harte’s men not to make the decider, Kerry would have to hammer Galway, who aren’t out of the woods themselves at the other end of the table, by almost 20-points to catch up on score difference.

Tyrone and Mayo have an outside chance of reaching the decider if results go their way, but Dublin are in pole position to finish second. A win over their old nemesis Tyrone will guarantee another Croke Park date for Dessie Farrell’s men.

Roscommon look the most likely to go down as they trail Galway in the table by two points, they’ll need to overcome Derry and hope that Kerry dish out a fourth league defeat for Padraic Joyce’s side to send the relegation spot to score difference.

Division Two

Allianz Football League Division Two is fairly straightforward as Ulster rivals Donegal and Armagh have clinched promotion and neither have anything to play for against Kildare and Cork respectively.

Kildare have already suffered the drop while Cork’s victory over Meath last weekend secured their status, so both of those games carry no weight in terms of relegation.

The other two fixtures however will decide everything. Fermanagh are clinging on for dear life and head into the final weekend off the back of a 6-17 to 0-11 drumming to Louth. They need to find an upturn in their fortunes to avoid demotion.

Kieran Donnelly’s side travel to Kingspan Breffni Park and while Cavan have nothing to play for, they’ll be eager to bounce back themselves after their 15-point defeat at the hands of Armagh last week.

Only a win will do for Fermanagh, but even then, it might not be enough. Louth take on Meath, who are safe, and if Louth get the victory, then Fermanagh’s result will count for nothing as Ger Brennan’s side will remain in Division Two.

Division Three

It’s winner takes all in Newry as Down host Clare and both teams have ambitions of promotion. Clare are placed one-point behind the league leaders so an away day victory for the Munster side would see them leapfrog Down.

Conor Laverty’s men only need one point to book their place in the league final and haven’t been beaten throughout the whole campaign. Westmeath, tied on 11-points with Down, are the other team in the promotion hunt.

Like Down, a draw would do for Dessie Dolan’s men who take on a Sligo side that have nothing to play for. At the other end of the Division Three table, Limerick have already been dumped out.

But Antrim, Offaly and Wicklow are all in the relegation dogfight and at the minute, it’s Oisin McConville’s Wicklow who rest second from bottom. They travel to Antrim in the final round and only a win will do.

If Wicklow win and Offaly lose, then it’s Offaly who take the plunge, but an Offaly draw should be enough to secure their status as they’re well ahead of both Antrim and Wicklow in terms of score difference.

Division Four

We’re in for a fascinating final round in Division Four as Laois, Wexford, Longford and Leitrim are all fighting for promotion. Wexford and Longford face off on Sunday, so the winner there will finish on 10 points.

Laois are already on that tally so a draw against Waterford who sit at the bottom of the table with one-point, would guarantee promotion for Justin McNulty’s side. Leitrim are at home to Tipperary, who have nothing to play for, so a win would be expected for Andy Moran’s team.

Should Laois win, then it’s a straight shootout for that second league final spot and at the minute Wexford have a nine-point head start in terms of score difference, so it’s all to play for on the final day of the Allianz Football League.
