The final tallies are in for the deciding round of our Irish sport beard bracket. And we have a winner, elected on the first (and only) count.

The newly crowned king of the Irish sporting beards is Ireland and Connacht player, John Muldoon. We've already heard word of wild celebrations from his campaign headquarters in Garbally College, Ballinasloe.

In the end John easily beat Anthony Pilkington in the final, garnering a massive 78% of the vote. He overcame the challenge of rugby league player, Tyrone McCarthy in the semi-final and Gordon D'Arcy in the final of the rugby section.

John's beard is probably best summed up by Balls.ie commenter 'Sea_Point':

Gordon Darcy looks like a Victorian era explorer, Muldoon looks like something he'd actually discover in the Wild....

Now that he's been crowned, surely it's time for John to bring the beard back.
