One of the most iconic photos after Galway won last month's All-Ireland Hurling Final was of Waterford's backroom team.

Manager Derek McGrath and selector Dan Shanahan were knelt on the Croke Park turf watching the Leinster champions celebrate a historic win. The bond between the duo is clearly a tight one.

Since the All-Ireland Final, focus in Waterford has turned to the County Championship. Despite being a selector for the county side, Shanahan still laces up his boots for Lismore.

This weekend, Shanahan will play in the semi-finals against Ballygunner. The side are two games away from their first county title since 1993.

Speaking to Off The Ball on Thursday evening, Shanahan spoke about recent months double-jobbing between both sides. Despite the success of the county side in 2017, he is unsure whether he will be on the sidelines next summer.

We met there as management about two or three weeks ago. We were all 50-50. A lot of that will have to do with different things with the County Board to be honest with you.

The backing - the 120% backing that we hope to have from them. There's no point going forward if we're not all together.

There's more in all of us to push on to where we want to go and win the All-Ireland. It's important for us that if we go back that we get a trophy next year whether it's a League, a Munster title or an All-Ireland title.

We're up there now with the top dogs. We have to push on from our performances this year to perform into 2018.

It's 50-50. We've sat down and gone to every club game in Waterford this year to see can we pick up another hurler or two for the future.

After the success of 2017, it will be a long winter for Waterford's fans who want McGrath, Shanahan and the rest of the backroom team to stay in place.
