"What Barman Turns Off United?" - The Reaction As Dundalk Went Toe To Toe With Russian Giants

51 minutes into the Dundalk-Zenit match tonight, people were wondering would this fairytale ever end. Zenit, universally held to be the strongest team in the group, looked set to be the latest to fall to the champions of Ireland.

A tweet from Stephen Mullins demonstrated that Dundalk FC have indeed changed the world.

Robbie Benson scored a goal from long range on 51 minutes. People were looking at each other wondering whether Dundalk would ever fail to win again.


Shortly afterwards, a skied goalkeeping clearance was ruthlessly punished by Zenit. Mak passing home the equaliser.


Zenit were thoroughly rejuvenated and Dundalk's confidence was shaken. The Russian time grabbed hold of the game and hungrily sought a winner.

The slick Zenit attack worked a delightful second goal to give to put them 2-1 ahead. They still had time to miss a penalty. Giuliano finished it off.

Immediately after the final whistle, Brian Kerr had a pop at the football authorities for Dundalk's insane fixture schedule. They have had to play a game roughly every three days in the past couple of weeks.
