The FAI have officially confirmed that Roy Keane will stay on as Ireland assistant manager and will not be pursuing the managerial vacancy at Celtic.

The Irish Independent first revealed this afternoon that Roy Keane will stay on as Martin  O'Neill's number two after "considering his options over the past few days."

It is understood that Celtic made a formal approach but Keane, 42, has decided to remain committed to the national team. The decision also allows him to keep his lucrative punditry position at ITV.

The news follows a week of speculation after the Corkman became linked to the job following the departure of Neil Lennon from Parkhead. Keane is believed to have made his decision known to O'Neill and FAI CEO John Delaney earlier today.

Keane had been odds-on to succeed Lennon after O'Neill admitted that Celtic owner Dermot Desmond approached him for permission to speak to Keane about taking over the role.

Steve Clarke is now the new favourite for the job at 4/6, former Cardiff City boss Malky Mackay is next at 3/1, while Owen Coyle is 5/1.
