Rugby Sevens star Carlin Isles is set to join the Detroit Lions practice squad with a hope to make the final 53 man roster as a wide receiver or punt returner. Isles, said to be the fastest rugby player in the world, runs a 10.13 100m dash and shocked Detroit Lions co-coordinators running a 4.22 40-yard dash, the fastest time seen in the league's scouting combine since electric timing was introduced in 1999.

Isles only started playing rugby in 2012 after failing to qualify for the Olympics as a sprinter, and it didn't take long for him to get recognised as the fastest man in rugby. His exploits on the rugby field have now opened a door for a future in the NFL. How long he lasts with them all depends on how quickly he adapts to the skills of American Football.

Although he has been given this opportunity with the Lions he still hopes to represent the USA in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

Isles told MLive:

"2016 is a big deal for me. That's a goal of mine, but playing in the NFL is a blessing, too."
