Last week, we told you about the 5 U-20 German woman footballers who were doing a Playboy shoot in order to generate publicity for the team. Now, we know this is exactly the kind of thing that Sepp Blatter would approve of, but it seems a little depressing to us that women should have to exploit their sexuality in order to capture the public's interest in their sport.
Then, while browsing through Die Welt today, I found this random slideshow of hyper-stylized black and white, neoclassical photos of nude females athletes from all kinds of obscure sports. The headline translates to "Sports Excellence without Disturbing Clothing". Not sure if this removes all of my doubts expressed above, but hat-tip to the Germans all the same. (It's worth pointing out that if you flip through enough of them, in the name of balance, a few male athletes turn up as well.)
