Irish Independent Sports Desk Now 'Borrowing' Tweets For Headlines

As with most sporting events these days, the Twitter banter during Haye-Klitschko was far more exciting than the fight itself. One of the best tweets on the fight came from the Sports desk of Midlands Radio. It was subsequently retweeted ten times.

Still the author of the tweet must have been slightly bemused to see his/her intellectual copyright pop up above a James Lawton article on the fight in yesterday's Irish Independent. Of course, it could have been total coincidence and the subeditor in question might have come up with the exact same sentiment on the shameless demise of David Haye, though it is worth noting that the story had a different headline in the UK edition.

Anyone who watched Independent.ie editor Noirin Hegarty giving out to the Journal.ie Susan Daly editor about the website's reliance on the print media for content on Vincent Browne will note that content-stealing is a two-way street. We just wish newspapers could invent some sort of hat-tip function so they can credit all of the content they're lifting from the web.
