Loughrea full forward Johnny Maher has received an 8 weeks suspension for his two minutes of madness during the Galway hurling final. After winning a penalty late in the game against St. Thomas, Maher proceeded to strike two players before scoring the penalty. Not done there he slyly tripped a St. Thomas player on the way back up the field.

Despite consulting his umpires, the referee took no action at the time.

St. Thomas' Richie Murray received no punishment for his apparent stamp on Loughrea's Damien McLearn. Murray will now be available to play in the All-Ireland semi-final against Loughgiel Shamrocks in February.
