With Lance Armstrong landing in Dublin today, Newstalk Breakfast spoke to whistleblower Betsy Andreu last night.
It was Betsy and her professional cyclist husband Frankie who testified in 2005 that Lance had told his cancer doctors that he was taking EPO back in 1996.
They had been in the room when Armstrong described Andreu as "a crazy bitch" and adamantly denies the conversation ever took place. Since his downfall, his stance has altered. He now says his memory of the incident is sketchy. While acknowledging that Andreu had a strong memory of the incident, he expressed doubts about whether a doctor would hold such a conversation with a patient with other people in the room.
Andreu is adamant that Armstrong gave the okay for the doctor to kickstart the conversation while the Andreu's were in the room.
She described Armstrong as a "pathological liar."
If he was truly sorry, he'd stop lying about us. He's not going to tell the truth about it. I'm going to have find a way to forgive a pathological liar who will stop at nothing.
And she said there's little chance that Armstrong would agree to be interviewed by Paul Kimmage. He might grandstand about it on twitter but would ultimately back away.
Armstrong would realise that charming Kimmage into submission would be beyond even his formidable powers in that department.
It's funny how he tweeted out for everybody to see but yet when Paul contacted him privately, he never answered Paul.
I don't see him sitting down with Paul because Paul is not somebody he can go and get drink with, and think he can sway him and charm him. Paul is on to him. He's too smart. An Irish friend in Chicago told me 'No one can bullshit like the Irish, but the Irish are first to call a bullshiter'.
Lance arrives into this hornets nest of bullshit-spotters tomorrow. He'll be interviewed at the OneZeroCon in the RDS tomorrow.
Ewan MacKenna will be asking the questions.
