Royal Ascot – Day 2

The great thing about betting is that there's always something to be optimistic about and that's no different on day two of Royal Ascot.

Here are our tips for the day:

2.30 – The Jersey is notorious for shock results and in Pearl Flute we might just have another. Winner of a Longchamp Group 3 over this trip last time out, he trades at 16/1 currently and that could well be an each way steal.

3.05 – Course and distance winner, Duntle, who took the Sandringham on this card last year, has been campaigned with this race in mind all season. Unlucky not to take a Group 1 at Leopardstown in September, when losing the race in the steward’s room, there is a lot to like about David Wachman’s charge’s claims at 11/4.

3.45 – A hard campaign last season, culminating in defeat in the St. Leger and then a slog in the Arc appears to have soured Camelot and he was well put in his place by market rival Al Kazeem, last time out at The Curragh. Al Kazeem will be a hard horse to beat and at around 5/2 represents good value as the claims of Camelot are readily dismissed.

4.25Sweet Lightning won the Irish Lincoln in the proverbial canter and has gone up twelve pounds in the process, however his talented apprentice, Luke Dempsey takes off a valuable seven today. At 25/1 each way, we reckon he’ll be there at the business end of the race and represents excellent value, Prince of Johanne is feared.

5.00 - Beldale Memory was an impressive scorer in a listed event at York and is fancied here to follow up. There is a slight doubt about the ground being firmer than ideal, but her first win was on good to soft and we think she’ll handle it. A likely favourite 9/2 seems about the right price.

5.35 -  Hint of A Tint has the most reliable each way credentials in what is a very competitive finale. Beaten just a neck in a Group 3 at Leopardstown last time out, the selection wears first time blinkers and that could well make the difference to a filly who hails from the Wachman yard that scooped this race last year with Duntle. 10/1.
