Pro football made its concussed return to global sports consciousness last night, with the Super Bowl champs Green Bay shading the Saints of New Orleans 42-34. In the off-season, the NFL brass had tweaked the kickoff rules to prevent brain injuries. Hardcore football people proclaimed this the death of special teams, but wouldn't you know, the game's most dramatic sequence came when Darren Sproles of the Saints scored on a punt return, only to be outdone by the Packers' Randall Cobb, who returned the ensuing kickoff 108 yards.
