The Geriatric Baseball Announcer, The Elvis-Impersonating Pro Wrestler and Me

You don't need to be a fan of baseball and 1980's WWF to find this totally weird. Yesterday was Opening Day in the world of baseball (a sport so in love with its own tradition that the first day of its season is a proper noun). Anywho, venerable LA Dodgers Vin Scully, possibly the last great living baseball play-by-play voice was calling the game between the Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants yesterday. The camera cut to the announcers booth at one stage and revealed an autographed photo of former Intercontinental champion The Honky Tonk Man behind Scully's shoulder. Honky was a great tonic to the roid rage of 80s wrestling, an essentially an Elvis impersonator in tights who liked to smash heads with an acoustic guitar. But, I'm sorry, his link to Vin Scully defies all logic. Once my father met Lex Luger and Ric Flair in a New Jersey hotel. He asked for their autographs to please his children, but it may have been the lowest moment of his life. Only an OMC song could sum up my confusion.
