By PJ Browne Updated

Despite spending countless hours contemplating it, discussing it, dissecting it - we really don't know how to deal with the weather in Ireland.

We're just not prepared and that's not only in terms of genetics. Of course, our near-translucent white skin doesn't help when the sun comes out.

Get in the water

If you're not near the pool or beach, you've got to innovate

A baseball cap is your best friend

Remember the importance of hydration

If the weather's splitting the stones, get in the shade

Sun cream is essential

Ice cream is another essential
