Two high school students attending South El Monte High School in Los Angeles had several fingers severed during a lunch time tug o'war competition which was part of school spirit week. A male student had four fingers severed from his left hand and a female student had four fingers severed from her right hand along with her thumb from her left hand. They were taken to hospital where both had surgery in an attempt to reattach the fingers.

As of yesterday, there was no update on whether or not the surgeries had been successful.

It is believed the students had the rope wrapped around their hand and when the rope snapped the accident occurred.
