Barney Miller is a quadriplegic Australian surfer who has not let his spinal cord injury prevent him from enjoying his passion.

In this beautifully-shot promo for the Wings for Life World Run, he mentions that there are 3 million people in the world with spinal cord injuries, and that thousands more become affected every year. His ambition is to walk again, and to dance at his wedding.

When he was 14 years old, Miller broke his C5 and C6 vertebrae in a car accident. He was initially told by doctors that he would never breathe unassisted again, never mind return to his favourite pastime. Today, he surfs chest-down on a modified board, and is understandably mindful of all the positives in his life.

The clip concludes with Barney urging viewers to take part in the Wings for Life World Run "for those who can't."

The Irish leg of the world race will be held around the Ring of Kerry on May 4. You can sign up here.
