Celliphine Chespol ran the second fastest time ever recorded in the women's 3000m steeplechase at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meeting in Eugene, Oregon.
The 18-year-old Kenyan clocked a time of 8:58.78, six seconds off Ruth Jebet's world record which was set just last year.
Remarkably, Chespol recorded the time despite having to stop on the penultimate lap. With 550m to go, Chespol took the second last water jump but then had to stop to adjust her shoe.

Despite the mishap, Chespol roared to victory, finishing ahead of compatriot Beatrice Chepkoech in second and world record holder Jebet in third.
