Earlier today, we saw Jenson Button cause a crash in the Monaco Grand Prix, as he deputised for Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard wasn't around as he is off racing in the Indianapolis 500 in the United States, which has tonight witnessed a crash on a far greater, and more frightening scale.

The race was stopped on the 66th lap, as the man who started the race in pole position - New Zealand's Scott Dixon - was flipped into the air after making contact with Jay Howard.

Howard had been shunted into the wall, and as he tried to get back into the race, he cut across Dixon, causing this extraordinary crash. Thankfully, both men have walked away unharmed.
