Nike have released the ad first ad in their new 'Just Do It' campaign, with controversial NFL player Colin Kaepernick as the centre piece.

Posted on his official Twitter page, the former 49ers quarterback provides the narration for the powerful advert, which also features a host of other Nike athletes. LeBron James and Serena Williams are two of those who can be seen in the video.

The central theme to the campaign is about overcoming hardships to achieve your goals, something Kaepernick certainly knows something about.

He has been a controversial figure in the US ever since his decision to kneel during the national anthem in 2016, having done so as a response to police brutality and discrimination towards people of colour in his country.

He has been criticised by President Donald Trump and many others for what they claim was a lack of respect for the American flag and their veterans.

Equally he has been supported by a number of fellow athletes in his endeavours, which have contributed to him failing to make an NFL roster for the last two seasons.

Since the announcement of this advertising campaign, there has been an outpouring of both anger and support for Nikes decision to use Kaepernick as its central figure.
