In the hunt for a record-extending 9th Wimbledon title, Roger Federer has bowed out at the quarter-final stage this evening. Taking on the #8 seed Kevin Anderson, the South African came out on top of the Swiss after a five-set classic.

Opening in typically dominant style, the 36-year-old Federer won the opening two sets; relinquishing a match-point in the third.

From there, the tall and powerful Anderson kicked on whilst Federer stalled. In a fascinating final set, it took 24 games for the two to be parted; the South African claiming a 13-11 win after a match that lasted 4 hours and 13 minutes in total.

With the scores deadlocked at 11-11 in the final set, and no obvious break in serve forthcoming, Anderson profited as Federer started to show signs of strain. Disturbed by noises from the crowd, and a plane flying overhead, with the first break of the 5th set, Anderson made no mistake with his service game.

You can watch the final two sets below.

Anderson will now move into his first semi-finals at the tournament; taking on the winner of John Isner and Milos Raonic for a place in a final against what may be Rafa Nadal or Novak Djokovic.
