Thamas Barr became the first Irishman to break 48 seconds in the 400m hurdles final today. In any other Olympics, his time would have been good enough for a medal.

He came screaming into it in the last 100m and was just pipped for the bronze medal. 4th spot in the Olympics. Some disappointment but an incredible performance.

Here was his interview with David Gillick afterwards. He was partly disappointed and said that "4th is the worst place to finish" but his tone told you he was proud of his run. He sounded upbeat and positive. We can only say what a run!

Of his time, Barr said;

It's insane. I never thought I'd see the day, especially this year, where I'd see the 47 come up on the clock. It's unbelievable. How many people have run 47 in the world? Probably the four of us in that final.
