After the madness of the Euros, the summer's next big sporting event is only around the corner.

The Tokyo Olympics will get underway this weekend, with the majority of Team Ireland having already touched down in Japan ahead of the game.

We have some real medal hopes too. A number of our athletes have a huge chance of securing a podium finish over the coming weeks.

If one prediction is to be believed, it could be our best ever showing at the games.

AP News have gone through the arduous task of predicting who would win medals in every single event in the Tokyo Olympics and it makes for pleasant reading for Ireland.

They have predicted that Ireland will win six medals: three gold and three silver.

They fancy us to do very well in the rowing, with Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan predicted to take gold in the Men's Lightweight Double Sculls, while they believe Sanita Puspure will do the same in the Women's Single Sculls.

They also fancy Philip Doyle and Ronan Byrne to get silver in the Men's Double Sculls.

In boxing, it is thought that both Kellie Harrington and Michaela Walsh will win silver medals in their respective weight classes.

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly considering the current form book, Rory McIlroy is predicted to win gold in the men's golf event.
