The Irish In Action On Day 7: Annalise Murphy In Pole For Gold

Day 6 of the Olympics saw a number of events postponed due to rain and wind. They should have just held the Olympics in Dublin sure the canals have been covered in can drinking revelers for weeks! Anyway, here are the (remaining) Irish in action on day 7. 

Golf

Men's Individual

10.30am

Padraig Harrington and Seamus Power tee off in round 2 at 11.30pm. Australian Marcus Fraser leads after the first round after an 8-under-par 63. Harrington and Power are currently -1 and even par respectively after mixed fortunes yesterday.

Athletics

Mark English runs in Heat 6 at 1.55pm. Lane 1. Don't let the name fool you, as his Twitter account says, he's actually Irish.

Dressage

Individual - Grand Prix Special

Judy Reynolds returns to action in the Grand Prix special having progressed yesterday. She and her horse Vancouver K are aiming for a place in Monday's Olympic decider.

Badminton

Men's Singles

Scott Evans faces Germany's Marc Zwiebler in Group K of the Preliminary round. Evans is the only man to ever compete in badminton for Ireland at Olympic level - making his bow at London 2012 - and he'll be looking to get off to a strong start in Rio.

Rowing

Men's Lightweight Double Sculls Finals

It was a grand day for Irish rowing as Sinead Jennings and Claire Lambe made it through to the rowing finals along with the O' Donovan brothers.
The hugely popular O' Donovan brothers came through yesterday's semi final by the skin of their collective teeth. Gary and Paul will be competing in Final A at 2.30pm and so you've no excuses, the whole of Ireland will be watching.

 Women's Lightweight Double Sculls Finals

Sinead Lynch and Claire Lambe made it through their Semi Final in 3rd place. The two have qualified with the fifth best time in the standings and will be hopeful of snatching a medal. They'll be rowing in Lane 6.

Sanita Puspure competes in Semi Final C/D after qualifying in fourth in her quarter final race. The 34-year-old will be rowing from lane 4.

Men's 49er (skiff)

5:10pm

Ryan Seaton and Matt McGovern, ranked 17th in the world, take to the water just after 5pm. The pair have sailed together since 2009. They are Ireland's first Olympic representatives in the 49er class since Tom Fitzpatrick and Fraser Browne finished 16th at the Athens games in 2004.

With his coach Rob Heffernan not in action until this day next week, 25-year-old Alex Wright takes on a field of 75 in the final of the 20km walk.

Hockey

Group Stages

Following a historic 4-2 win over Canada yesterday, the Irish hockey team take on Argentina. Victory for David Harte and co. will see Ireland reach the quarter-final stage on their Olympic debut - this following Argentina's 4-4 draw with Germany last night.

This one is technically on Saturday because it's after midnight but sure we'll throw it in here anyway. You can watch Chloe Magee face Germany's Karin Schnaase through bleary eyes at 1.05am in the morning. Magee will be looking to bounce back after a she lost to second seed Chinese Wang Yihan with scores of 21-7 and 21-12.

Women's 1500m

Portaferry-born Ciara Mageean gets her 1500m campaign underway at half-past midnight. The 24-year-old enters Rio as a European bronze medallist, and took silver at both the World Youth Championships and World Junior Championships respectively.
