The Post-Olympics Line-Up For Friday Night's Late Late Show Is Spectacular

While the Irish news melted during the Olympics, the nation's conscience was away on its summer hiatus. So while the nation wailed tears and gnashed its teeth, the necessary release valve of the Late Late Show was replaced on RTE by Julia Roberts films. (Why always Erin Brockovich and Pretty Woman?)

The good news is that the Late Late Show is back this Friday, and with so much to discuss, the state broadcaster have ditched their usual approach of having an RTE personality interview an RTE personality.

Instead, this Friday's live jamboree will feature a procession of the Irish folk who hit the headlines during Rio 2016. (The exception is Pat Hickey, who is otherwise engaged).

Minister for Tourism, Transport and Sport Shane Ross will make an appearance following his journey into Rio's heart of darkness, presumably to discuss his realisation that sport is in fact a far trickier part of his portfolio than otherwise anticipated. Here is an excerpt from RTE's press release:

Minister Ross will give viewers his unique insight into what went down in Brazil, the questions that need to be answered and how he’s going about getting those answers. And after years of being a thorn in the side of many governments, we’ll be finding out from Minister Ross what it’s like to suddenly find himself in the firing line with the advent of new politics.

Some of Ireland's Olympians will also make an appearance: Michael Conlan is due on to look back at Rio 2016 and look ahead to what is next, and there will also be a parade of medals.

Analise Murphy will appear, as will the O'Donovan brothers, in which might be one of the most eagerly awaited television appearances for years.

It all kicks off at 9.35pm on RTE One this Friday.
