At their press conference at Skibbereen Rowing Club today, the two explained what exactly podium pants are.

It was an inside joke between them and Irish Rowing's High Performance Director Morten Espersen.

They're long pants.

The thing is with the rowing at the World Championships, you get out of the boat straight away and you wear your racing suit getting your medal. The Olympics then they have all this different criteria. They gave us these special podium pants.

We have a bit of a joke going on in the team. Morten hands out our gear and gives us our racing stuff. Morten basically says 'this is the podium one piece'. We get three racing suits at the start of the season and he goes 'here's your two racing ones and here's your podium one'.

That's where Paul came up with the podium pants from this inside joke.
