O'Donovan brothers Paul and Gary arrived back in Ireland late last night after their heroics at the Olympics and Paul's subsequent brilliant gold medal winning performance at the World Rowing Championships.

The pair held a press conference at Skibbereen Rowing club this afternoon.

Asked about the lift in spirits which their Olympic performance and laid back interviews have given the country, Paul said that they were simply "talking shite and being ourselves".

Cork airport was jammed for their arrival home.

Paul described meeting people as 'hungry work' while Gary told of being handed a bag of sandwiches through a car window as they passed celebrating supporters.

Christ, it's hungry work celebrating and waving at people and shaking hands and that.

The Celtic Ross gave us some ham sandwiches on the way.

They had a crowd out and a bit of a bonfire and as we were driving past we stuck our hands out of the car and we were handed a bag of sandwiches. We were delighted.
