Darragh McDonald took bronze for Ireland on Day One of the IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow.
The London 2012 Paralympic gold medalist finished 6.12 seconds behind winner Francesco Bocciardo of Italy in the S6 400m freestyle final. Russian Andrei Granichka claimed the silver.
It was a race which featured an exciting final length between the Italian and the Russian.
McDonald, from Gorey, was ranked fourth in the world going into the event. It was a race in which he won gold at the 2013 World Championships.
Also in action for Ireland this evening was Nicole Turner.
The 13-year-old put in a brilliant performance to finish fifth in the S6 400m freestyle final.
Ukrainian Yelyzaveta Mereshko won the race in a championship record on 5:21.76.
Turner is in action again tomorrow when she goes in the SB6 100m breaststroke heat at 10:48am while we will see Ellen Keane in the heats of both the S9 100m freestyle and SB8 100m breaststroke.
