The medal podium for the lightweight men's double sculls at the Euros in Prague this morning looked quite similar to the medal podium at Rio last summer. France took gold and the O'Donovan brothers won silver for Ireland. In fact, this morning's race was quite like the Olympics final, where the Skib lads seemed to be dead and buried only for a monstrous effort in the race's final stages to just about take second place.

It's safe to say they pulled like a pack of dogs for a famous silver medal.

O'Donovan brothers take silver

After the race, the lads were understandably winded while speaking to David Gillick on RTÉ.

The most entertaining part of the interview featured Gary ruminating on his desire for a big meal and how the Shane O'Driscoll and Mark O'Donovan were going to buy the lads lunch after the race.

The silver medal for the O'Donovan brothers rounded out an incredibly memorable day for Ireland at the European Championships today. Earlier, Shane O'Driscoll and Mark O'Donovan took gold in the lightweight men's pair while Denise Walsh won a silver medal after a heroic comeback in the lightweight women's single sculls. Amazingly, all of the rowers come from the Skibbereen/West Cork area.

Considering the Olympics success that O'Donovan brothers enjoyed and Paul O'Donovan's gold medal at the World Rowing Championships last September, it's been one of the most successful 12-month periods in the history of Irish rowing.
