As a player, Carlo Ancelotti won two European Cups, three Serie A titles, played in a World Cup semi-final, and was an integral part of a legendary AC Milan team. On the pitch, he knows what leadership is.

However, away from the field, the Italian has managed some of the greatest players in world football following spells in charge of the likes of Real Madrid, PSG, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Juventus.

Simply put, the Everton manager knows quality when he sees it and following the recent win against Crystal Palace, the Italian has compared Seamus Coleman to the legendary Paolo Maldini after another impressive performance.

After losing his place in the Irish team to Spurs defender Matt Doherty, the former Sligo Rovers defender has done his talking on the pitch and Coleman was superb in the win at Selhurst Park, creating their second goal.

A penalty from Richarlison’s and another goal from Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s - his fifth of the campaign - kept Everton's 100% start to the season intact and following the game, their boss paid tribute to the Republic of Ireland defender.

"Seamus is doing really well. He is an example for all the others of how you need to be: the attitude, the spirit - every day," said Ancelotti via The Independent.

"I've had a lot of captains in my career but how Seamus expresses his love for the shirt is really top. He is a great captain, honestly. I don’t want to forget anyone [I have worked with] but he is up there as a captain with Maldini, John Terry and Sergio Ramos."

High praise indeed.

Next up for Everton is a midweek home clash with West Ham in the Carabao Cup before they play Brighton at home next weekend.
