Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th club goal against Everton at Goodison Park and had a unique celebration for it.

For the goal, the 37- year-old collected the ball from his former Real Madrid and now Manchester United teammate Casemiro. Unmarked just off the halfway line, the 5 time Ballon D'or winner outpaced Conor Coady and managed to put the ball in the back of the net from an acute angle.

Explained: Cristiano Ronaldo's unusual celebration

Fans of the footballer were probably expecting Ronaldo to do his iconic SIU celebration, but he decided against it. Instead, the Portuguese stood in an unusual position with his hands clasped together and his eyes closed.

It has been revealed today by Manchester United that the celebration was an inside joke. Apparently, Ronaldo tends to sleep in the position during long coach and plane journeys with the team and his teammates have noticed it.

First Player To Reach 700

The Manchester United forward became the first person ever to reach the milestone on Sunday night. His 700 goals are spread across 4 leagues, the Premier League, Serie A, the Portuguese league and La Liga where the majority of the goals were scored. In fact, he has scored more goals in the Champions League than his spells in England and Italy's leagues. However, he'll have to share the accolade soon as his rival Lionel Messi is only 9 short of his total with 691 club goals.

First goal in new Premier League season for Cristiano Ronaldo

His 700th club goal was also his first goal in this Premier League campaign. Ronaldo will be hoping that his landmark goal would have impressed Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag. The 3-time Premier League winner has only started once under the new boss, a 4-0 away defeat against Brentford. He was not in the starting line-up at Goodison either. Instead, he came on for an injured Anthony Martial in the first half.

With Martial expecting to be out for a few weeks, Cristiano Ronaldo should get a chance to increase his tally and set his Manchester United career back on track.
