The Erik Ten Hag era got off to the worst possible start after a 2-1 defeat by Brighton at Old Trafford yesterday. Pascal Gross' first half brace resulted in Manchester United fans booing the side off the pitch at half time.

With reinforcements undoubtedly needed at the club, Manchester United have been linked with moves for Adrien Rabiot and Marko Arnautovic.

Last night, Sky Sports News reported that Bologna had turned down a £9 million bid from United for 33-year-old striker Marko Arnautovic.

The injury to Anthony Martial and the uncertainty over Ronaldo's future mean an attacker is desperately needed at the club.

Rabiot and Arnautovic linked with Manchester United

Gary Neville was speaking on the possible transfer of Arnautovic to the club, but Neville said how he wasn't surprised that their bid had been rejected.

"Dave, the first thing you do when the phone rings from Manchester United is reject the bid, because the reality of it is, you know full well they lost the game today. They're actually negotiating now from an even worse position than they were yesterday and that's a bigger problem for them."

Neville was then asked on his opinion on the former West Ham striker coming to the club.

"I don't know, I have no comment on it. Dave I've got a comment on everything in the world apart from Manchester United signing Marko Arnautovic today, I've got nothing to say."

In the wake of another abject midfield performance from McTominay and Fred, The Athletic are meanwhile reporting today that Ten Hag also wants to bring Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot to Old Trafford. The France international has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Juventus and the Italian giants will likely want to offload him now as opposed to losing him on a free next summer.

Rabiot did feature in Juventus' pre season trashing against PSG at the weekend, coming on as a substitute in the 4-0 defeat.

The 27-year-old will likely arrive instead of long term target Frenkie De Jong, who turned the club down in recent weeks.

Ten Hag definitely needs more quality in the Manchester United squad, but whether Arnautovic and Rabiot will bring that, is yet to be seen.

Deal agreed with Juventus

According to Sky Sports News, Juventus have accepted a bid from Manchester United for Adrien Rabiot. Personal terms are yet to be agreed, but negotiations between the clubs have been finalised.
