There has been very little movement on Jadon Sancho to Manchester United in recent weeks. At one time it looked as though the deal was close, but now it seems that the Premier League club won't meet the huge asking price Borussia Dortmund are seeking.

As things stand, you would imagine it is unlikely that the deal will go through.

That would be a bit of a blow for Manchester United. Their first choice front three of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood is amongst the best in the division, but they lack depth. Sancho certainly would have addressed that issue.

However, not everybody thinks that he would be a crucial addition.

Appearing on Sky Sports earlier today, Tim Sherwood was of the opinion that United didn't need the winger. In fact, he felt they would be better off signing Jack Grealish and Gareth Bale.

I don't think they need Jadon Sancho, I really don't.

Listen, if they've got the money to go out and spend it on Jadon Sancho you'd bring him in, you want as many good players as you can at your football club.

But he's similar to what they've got. They've got Greenwood, Rashford, Martial, James...

All of them players we mentioned, like Sancho, have got pace. They are very threatening when teams play a high line against them. When teams sit back against them that's where they struggle, until Fernandes came in...

I think now they've got van de Beek who can do that, makes runs into the box and score goals in midfield areas.

I would go for Jack Grealish. He has the quality that I think they need. I would still go out and get Gareth Bale on a free transfer. I think Gareth Bale needs to come back to the Premier League, he needs to be in the Premier League again and start playing football.

I think he has a lot to offer. If he goes to a huge club like Manchester United I think he will flourish for a couple of seasons.

Certainly an interesting take.
