Clermont flanker Julien Bardy has been suspended for five weeks following an incident involving Saracens number 8 Billy Vunipola during the opening round of Champions Cup games last weekend.

Bardy was cited for "striking the Saracens No 8, Billy Vunipola, with his knee during the 78th minute of the Pool 1 game at Allianz Park in contravention of Law 10.4(a)" according to the EPCR.

The incident occurred at a ruck at the start of this video. See for yourself whether the Portuguese flanker (wearing number 20) deserves his punishment. The incident was not picked up at the time, and while Vunipola appears hurt after the ruck, not much is made out of the incident during the game.

Bardy won't return from suspension until December 8th as it runs over the course of seven weeks taking into account time where he would not be playing. This means he will miss the game against Munster at Thomond Park on December 6th.
