Your Guide to Rugby Hipster Jerseys

Rugby isn't the niche sport it used to be. To have that 'rugby hipster' look, you need to have different ways to show your true hipsterness. These are the 12 ways you can have a jersey to reflect your true rugby hipsterness. It's hipster jersey time.

1. Training Jersey

Also known as the cheap supporter. What says you follow your team more than wearing what they wear on the training pitch. This is the easy route to go down, given that most training jerseys not only look better than the actual jersey, but often cost half the price.

 2. Stade Francais Jersey

The mainstream hipster jersey. For those who think it's being different, but a lot of people have one. Including me. And I look damn fine in mine.

3. Edinburgh Alternate Jersey

This isn't really one, I just wanted an excuse to show this horrendous jersey.

4. Barbarians Jersey

The revered Barbarians jersey. As a player it's an honour to get an invite to play for them. As a supporter, have you ever seen one in shops? I didn't think so. That's why it's on this list.

5. An alternate International Jersey

Similar to the Stade Francais jersey. This has the look of a holiday t shirt, but says you follow rugby. If you can say anything about Fijian rugby apart from how they traditionally play the game, you wouldn't be wearing this.

6. Rugby Austria Jersey

Speaking of an alternate International jersey, this one that looks like a joke but probably isn't? It has the hallmark of a Christmas jumper.

7. South Africa 7's (Blitzbokke)

This one is confusing. Rugby 7's until it starts in the Olympics is by definition hipster, so therefore a 7s jersey is fairly alternative. The South African 7s, aka the Blitzbokke, have by far the most attractive piece of kit (see below), yet still manage to have some horrendous ones. Who thought that dressing their players in nappies (above) would look good?

8. Bulls Camouflage

What's cooler than a hipster jersey you can't see?

9. Super Rugby

Is there anything more hipster than supporting a team that plays at 10 in the morning and has just been formed? It does help that their kit is now becoming quite stylish. I've seen a few Super Rugby jerseys around Ireland recently, and every time I've thought to myself, that guy knows nothing about his rugby, but he probably enjoyed his trip Down Under.

I'm most likely wrong about my thoughts, and will most definitely join these people in getting a Rebel's jersey.

10. ITM Cup

The only thing more hipster than Super Rugby jerseys is a jersey from a tier below that. The ITM Cup is the equivalent to the UlsterBank League in Ireland, but they take their jerseys very seriously, with Dragons, Stags and Bulls on the jersey. I mean, look at Taranaki's alternate kits below

11. NRL New Zealand Warriors

Rugby League is as hipster now as rugby union has been. There are no jerseys more hipster out there than the Canterbury Warriors in New Zealand. I mean, look at their selection from the past few years. It's incredible. Hipster jersey heaven.

12. Canterbury Bulldogs NRL - Avatar Themed

I lied earlier, special one off movie themed jerseys are far more hipster. This Avatar themed jersey from the Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL are something special.
