The Grand Slam is gone, we're out of the Cricket World Cup and Enda Kenny's off getting photos taken with wrestling legends while we're stuck in work. Today is a miserable day.

However, not to worry, our leader has some rousing words to brighten the mood. Speaking in the wake of Ireland's defeat to Wales, head coach Joe Schmidt has looked on the bright side and found some positives we may have overlooked in the immediate aftermath:

What we can learn is that we won’t lack for character, we don’t lack for endeavour and those are important starting points.

It's funny how we just take unrelenting effort and passion as a given at this stage. What some countries would give for just pinch of it.

Schmidt also added:

What we do know is we are still in the championship and we still have a fantastic opportunity to do something that hasn’t been done for a long time if we can create enough opportunities in Murrayfield next week.

He revealed that the players will be given a bit of extra rest today after what he described as a test and half's worth of play on Saturday.
