Former Ireland second row Neil Francis made some extremely controversial remarks about homophobia in sport on Newstalk today. Francis was a guest on the Off The Ball programme's "Backpages" segment where invited guests discuss the days newspapers.

Francis expanded on his point when discussing Michael Sam and questioned the former College Football star's reasons for announcing he was gay.

Francis ponders "if you did a survey of the hairdressing industry, how many heterosexuals work in that" and claims the number of professional homosexual sports men and women would be closer to 1% of the population.

Francis also claimed that in his experience of sitting down with homosexual men, the vast majority have no interest in sport.
