The 29-year-old said he would accept any punishment that came his way.

I’m a goose, if I’m going to do the crime, I’ll definitely pay the time. It’s always been in my character to stand up and accept the responsibility, I was a bloody idiot. It’s one of those things, I wanted to front straight away and get the apology out there and make sure that everyone knows how sorry I am.

Rugby Australia has contacted Phipps in relation to the incident although there has no indication as to his punishment yet. He has said he apologised to the union as well as his teammates and the establishment in question.

The incident occurred a day after he was involved in the Waratahs’ 29-0 home loss to the Lions in Super Rugby. Phipps claimed he has little memory of it.
