A statement on the radio station's website says:

Brian has signed an exclusive deal with Newstalk and the station is delighted to have him on board for this exciting partnership.

It seems he will be starting in the new role this September, and BOD said 'Making the decision to join the Off the Ball team was an easy one for me – it’s the nation’s leading sports show and best radio station and following a break this summer.'

Sports editor of Newstalk and Off the Ball presenter, Ger Gilroy commented:

We are thrilled that Brian has decided to join the Off the Ball team, we had a gap for a world class centre! Seriously though, his giant sports brain will be picked clean on a regular basis, we can’t wait.

He'll also be a guest on the show tonight, as he gives his first post-retirement interview.
