Northampton's Calum Clark has been suspended for three weeks after he dropped his elbow on Donncha O'Callaghan during a game against Worcester on Friday night.

With seven minutes remaining in the first half, a kick-off from Worcester landed just inside the Northampton 22. At the resulting ruck, Clark struck O'Callaghan with his elbow.

Oddly, the RFU disciplinary panel which suspended Clark found that the incident was 'not a premeditated act but an intentional strike'. It's certainly curious that they were able to differentiate between the two. Perhaps they meant that Clark had not been planning the elbow for a week before the game, though, you'd usually take that as a given.

They also added that Clark's 'remorse before the panel was genuine and heartfelt'.

O'Callaghan certainly took exception to the incident, immediately seeking retaliation.
