When Dan Carter signed to become the most paid player in rugby union with Racing Metro, most people assumed that he would be the Parisian's savour - whilst maybe adding a little interest to the Top 14 and the Champions Cup.

What they didn't know was that Carter would be coming North with some original ideas to save the Six Nations.

He's only been with his new club for about four months now, but Carter has already revealed that he's figured out why the 2016 Six Nations has been so turgid to watch - bonus points.

I definitely think it would be great. We play with them in all our competitions back home, always chasing the four tries to get the bonus point.

It entices you to not only look for the win ... I think it’d be good up here too.

Now that the might of Dan Carter is weighing in behind the idea of bonus points (and four try bonus points, not the upsetting method they now use in the Top 14 and Super Rugby), it's only a matter of time before the bigwigs in the Six Nations committee bow down to such a power.

Referees are already treating Carter differently up here, why don't the fatcats?

It's made the Champions Cup and PRO12 much more watchable, and it needs to happen. Carter has waved his magic hands, let it be so.
