Ulster got their season underway with a comfortable 36-10 win over Connacht at Kingspan Stadium. After a tight start to the game, tries from Luke Marshall, Tom Stewart, Nathan Doak and Stewart Moore secured the bonus point victory for Ulster. The returning Jacob Stockdale showed signs of promise and left the game without any injury problems, in a very positive night for Ulster.

Scarlets almost got their season off to the perfect start but failed to hold on for the victory at home to rivals Ospreys. A last minute try by Rhys Davies ensured they started the season with a 23-23 draw.
