It took Leinster/Munster about ten minutes to eclipse the Champions Cup final as a spectacle, with James Lowe sprinkling magic to send Jack Conan over for the game's first try after seven minutes. From there it has been ferociously competitive and swaying from end-to-end, although the opening 40 minutes were marred with one ugly moment.

As Munster attacked, Jean Kleyn was far too exuberant in clearing out a ruck, and ended up flying in head first. He connected with Ross Byrne, with the Leinster fly-half forced off as a result. After a lengthy discussion with the TMO, referee Stuart Berry elected to give Kleyn a yellow for a reckless clearout.
