England lost their six consecutive game at the weekend as South Africa took a 2-0 lead in the summer series between the two sides.

As the players walked from the pitch in Bloemfontein following the final whistle of South Africa's 23-12 win, there were some angry exchanges between two England players - prop Joe Marler and back Mike Brown - and supporters.

"You say people can't fault the effort but when a guy in your jersey is leaning over screaming obscenities and saying you're not trying, you're going to have a reaction," Mike Brown told BBC regarding the incident.

"It wasn't a bad reaction, speaking of myself.

"I missed Marler's interaction with him. But as he walked off, I then got it off this so-called supporter."

Brown said that the supporter had told him "something along the lines of, 'we're not trying hard enough' with a few other words in there."

I just told him to shut up basically - exactly like that.

I'm not a robot, I'm a human being who puts it out there every week. I put my body on the line and try my best for my country.

So, when someone does something like that, I'm going to have a reaction. It was quite a reserved reaction from me, I think.

Brown added that words like that from supporters can hurt players.

"You've seen how hard we train and how much we knock each other about, and what we go through for a whole season let alone just on tour.

"You can call me whatever in terms of how I've played - that's fine - but don't turn around and say I'm not trying when I'm coming off with bumps and bruises and aching and I've given everything I can for England."
