You probably already know that yesterday Ireland's Womens rugby team beat New Zealand 17-14 in the Womens Rugby World Cup, which is the first time an Irish rugby team has beaten the Kiwi's in a test match.
We checked to see how the New Zealand media were dealing with the news, since the All Blacks twitter account made this bitter tweet after the final whistle, only to remove it pretty hastily.
The New Zealand Herald reported on the upset and were full of praise for the girls in green:
Ireland's big pack ripped into their work and scarcely let up for 80 minutes. It was a tribute to their organisation and set-piece ability, where they shunted the Black Ferns off the ball once and should have been awarded a penalty try on another.
They also presented a disciplined defensive line, shutting down the Black Ferns so well that dangerous outside backs Honey Hireme and Huriana Manuel hardly saw any ball.
Stuff.co.nz share the same headline, but focus on how big the loss was for the Black Ferns:
It was the first World Cup match the Black Ferns have lost since the semifinal against USA in 1991. They had enjoyed a 20-match World Cup winning streak since, claiming the trophy four times in a row.
Kiwi Sports website Sportal.co.nz seem to be ignoring the situation altogether...
While news channel TVNZ have shunted the story down the pecking order of rugby news, but were more complimentary in the article:
The four-time champions have had a mortgage on the women's game for the past generation but the grand slam winning Ireland team proved times are changing.
With superior fitness and skills to match, Ireland very much deserved their win as they all but booked their place in the semi-finals in front of an impressive contingent of Irish fans.
