New Zealand captain Sam Cane has potentially landed himself in hot water after he took out a fan that made their way onto the pitch after his side's Rugby Championship victory over Argentina last night.

The All Blacks started the tournament in a convincing fashion, bursting out of the blocks before ultimately running out as 41-12 winners in Mendoza.

However, much of the post-match conversation has been dominated by the incident after the final whistle.

New Zealand captain apologises over pitch invader incident

With the match over, a supporter ran onto the pitch and was attempting to evade stewards as they chased them down. After the fan came close to the New Zealand team, Can broke away from the group and produced a forceful kick on the pitch invader, knocking them to the ground.

While the individual in question should not have been on the pitch, it is not a good look for the Kiwi captain to get involved in such a manner. In saying that, others feel he has nothing to apologise for.

Sam Cane soon took to Instagram to address for his actions:

Tonight after the game someone ran onto the pitch and I made an error in judgement and played a part in stopping him.

I acknowledge this was not my role and it is out of character for me to act in such a way.

I am really sorry and am disappointed in myself. I am trying my best to contact the individual to apologise and make things right.

You would imagine that it is unlikely that the authorities will take this matter any further, although you get the sense that the New Zealand skipper will avoid getting involve in such incidents moving forward.

New Zealand have a busy few weeks ahead, playing four more Rugby Championship games in the next six weeks or so before facing into their World Cup campaign in September.
